• Norm looked at me so intently, carefully reading my body language, eye contact never wavering. Someone was truly seeing me. His voice dropped down to soft and quiet, matching the secrecy and pain of what I was telling him; as if he knew that any sudden volume change would frighten me back into my hiding place. He chose his words carefully and said as much with his eyes and expressions as with his words. When I spoke he listened carefully, nodding asking questions, gently validating me. He was peaceful, still and comforting. I did not yet realize that the words I was speaking would ripple out and change the carefully constructed yet crumbling formation of my life. He offered his strength while I was finding mine, and had tears for me when my own wouldn’t fall. He gently walked with me through my pain and tended my wounds that would not heal.
