Due to some of the unique issues related to working with a client who has an eating disorder, there are some really advantageous aspects of having therapy sessions online.

Many people with eating disorders have a need to be in control at all times and one of the benefits of online counseling is that they get a greater amount of control over the session in the online counseling room. Eating disordered clients have some fears about being alone in the counseling room with the therapist which requires a comfort level adjustment that is not necessary with video counseling. The online environment is easier to adjust to then the a counseling office with an in person therapist.

In this video Norm talks about some of the benefits of counseling clients with eating disorders, using his online platform. Online counseling for eating disorders is very effective.

Overeating is a problem in much of our society. There is lots of media hype and information available on many different aspects of eating disorders.

Websites post various articles expressing every angle and view point from eating disorders to weight management. In this brief video I talk about one small aspect of this broad topic; eating due to anxiety.

I am referring to the times when your body feels the exact same hunger pangs when hungry for food, except that it feels them when in fact you are anxious or stressed. It is easy to mistake those feelings for feelings for hunger. This isn’t unusual since the feelings are so similar, sometimes even identical.
Have a look at the video and please feel free to comment.

Moving from one addiction to another or transferring addictions is a common problem for a lot of people. For instance people that conquer their drinking addiction but now have problems with an overeating addiction.

If the pressure is very high to stop an addiction, it is easy to move from one addiction to another. When there is a need to substitute real life with an addiction it’s time to take a look at the addictive mindset. Take a look at when you first realized you were addicted. Why did the addiction seem to work? What were you using it for? What benefit did you get from it? Are there similar responses to events from your childhood?

This video is an expansion of my previous video on addictions. Maybe you have successfully dealt with one addiction but you can’t figure out why you now have a different one. Take a look at this short video. I welcome your comments and feedback.

Addictions can be described as a habit that has become detrimental to a person’s life. There can be an emotional or physiological addiction or a combination of those two. An addiction is something that is causing interference with healthy living and enjoying life and is now in control of the person.

It is confusing when a person realizes they have lost control but can’t understand why. Why you can’t seem to stop? Looking at the issue of what you are stopping or what you need your addiction for, might give you some insight. Is it the physiological craving, or is it when you are in an awkward moment, or feel uncomfortable that you get a craving to numb your feelings?

Often with addiction, the addiction becomes the coping method. In this video I talk about an addiction being a substitute for one’s own personal intentional control. We need to look at the reason you need to use a coping method in the first place. Looking at the cause might help you to take a better approach to the addiction.

Please feel free to add your questions, comments or feedback.
